This year, Kyiv Cyclists’ Association has been offering a wide range of events in the capital city of Kyiv during the whole European Mobility Week, which is held on September 16-22.

Cyclist counting

When: Saturday, September 16, 2017, 12:00-14:00

Where: 20 street intersections in different parts of Kyiv

This is the fourth year when our Association organizes the counting of cyclists in Kyiv. It is done twice a year, first in the spring, and then in the autumn. We have chosen Wednesday as the most typical weekday, when counting is done from 17:00 to 19:00, and Saturday as a typical weekend day, with counting to be conducted from 12:00 to 14:00.

Maintaining Your Bicycle: a master class

When: September 16, 2017, 10:00-12:00

Where: Veloprostir bicycle repair shop at 6, Lavrska St.

Kyiv Cyclists’ Association and Veloprostir bicycle repair shop run master classes that help you learn how to maintain your bicycle at home. This master class is for novice users who would like to learn:

how to maintain a bicycle,

how to perform some simple adjustments and tune-up,

how to identify problems that need a visit to a repair shop.

Bicycle excursion “Secrets of the Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy”

Within the European Mobility Week, Kyiv Cyclists’ Association offers bicycle excursions for Kyiv residents and guests.

We would like to invite you to the largest exhibition centre in Ukraine, a unique place where ancient temples coexist with architectural patterns of 1950′s. You will learn about the history of this area, from the time before the Exhibition Centre was created, through the golden age of the Exhibition, to the current situation. We will reveal the secrets of its pavilions and decipher mysterious signs and ornaments on those signs.

Velopoint in Troyeshchyna with free bicycle rental

To promote the cycling route existing in Troyeshchyna among the local residents, KCA has organized its VeloPoint as part of the European Mobility Week.

When: Sunday, September 17, 15:00-20:00

Where: Troyeshchyna, near Florence Cinema (Desniansky Park)

There will be bicycles free to rent at KCA’s VeloPoint.

Kyiv Cyclists’ Association invites everybody to visit the VeloPoint:

to rent a bicycle for free (documents should be left at the VeloPoint as a guarantee);

to pass a traffic rules test and to receive a “cyclist license”;

to learn how to make Kyiv a cycling city.

Cycling safety training for school children

When: Wednesday, September 20, 14:00

Where: Kyiv, Secondary School No. 28

Ukrainian traffic rules state that it is allowed to cycle on a carriageway from the age of 14, and no special tests (like a driver license test) are required. For this reason, it is very important to ensure that children learn at school how to cycle safely in the city.

Bicycle excursion “Kyiv: a City Where One Would Like to Live”

When: Thursday, September 21, 19:00-21:00

Kyiv is a live city, it continues to develop, and even traditional problems cannot stop global trends that reveal their signs also in Kyiv. During this excursion, we will visit several landmark places developed (or scheduled to be developed) in Kyiv in 2017, and we will listen to brief explanations of how they were created and why they are important for our city.

Autumn Bike to Work Day (Car-Free Day)

When: September 22, 2017, 8:00-10:00

Where: Maydan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square), near Liadski Gates

September 22 is celebrated globally as a Car-Free Day. On that day, it is suggested to use public transit, cycle, or walk instead of using private cars.

A gathering of cyclists is expected at Maydan Nezalezhnosti in Kyiv. On that day, we welcome Kyivites to cycle to their workplaces or schools, in order to demonstrate that cycling is indeed a convenient, fast, and safe way of daily transportation. Everybody already using bicycles to get to work, as well as those who want to try and join this trend, are welcome for a mini-breakfast with coffee and croissants near Liadski Gates.

Dress code is up to you, but we suggest that you try and cycle in your daily clothing or a business suit.

07:00-07:30 – groups start from different parts of the city

08:00 – start of the event program on Maydan (gathering of cyclists from various parts of Kyiv, morning coffee)

08:30 – joint photo session

08:40-08:55 – Best Business Look competition

08:55-10.00 – coffee, music, and networking for all those who are not in a rush

On the Car-Free day, we invite Kyivites to go to their offices or colleges using a bicycle.

Cycling Safety School by KCA: the closing lesson

During several years, there have been free lessons of the Cycling Safety School in different parts of Kyiv. Those events have been delivered by experienced cycling trainers being KCA’s volunteers.

When: September 24, 11:00

Where: simultaneously in three areas of Kyiv: Podil, Holosiiv, and Pozniaky

You do not need a bicycle to attend the theory part. The lesson, including a practical ride accompanied by the trainer, takes 2 hours. If you want to participate in the practical part, i.e. riding with the trainer, you have to have a bicycle in good order. All participants of the Cycling Safety School will receive a copy of the Traffic Rules for Cyclists brochure as a present from Kyiv Cyclists’ Association.

EMW host in Kyiv

In Kyiv, the European Mobility Week campaign is hosted by Kyiv Cyclists’ Association, which has been running the EMW since 2011. This year, the EMW is supported by the European Union and the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Ukraine.
